Glimpses 1991
Poetry Listing
Glimpses
He walks the causeway through the soft damp earth
The sky is low and dark, clouds, a hint of rain
A far off glow among the mountains shows the way
No fear, just a sojourn in the very heart of man
Fields of grain, of life begun anew abound
They're all around and within the traveller
But dimly seen, barely sensed beyond the road
He drifts as phantom in the byways of his soul
Soft, so soft she calls a single note
Carried dimly on the dawn, a single thought
A soft and gentle sigh lost in the wakening
Her whisper to his image passing by
Not heard amid the rush of surface thoughts
As night reverses once again and life is gone
In vain he can't recall her whispers
Deep in the fading moonscape of his mind
The fleeting glimpse forgotten every day
The sleeping mate, the breath of all things born
The mother to us all stirs again, and again
And abides suppressed, forgotten and forlorn
So sad for blind men who stumble through the world
Their eyes can only see the things defined by other men
How can they ever know the splendour of the night
When seeds of life push up within, towards the light
Ah, sweet secret of life, dear mother earth, day's twin
Revive my soul and be the guide within
Awake and awaken me to the fields and feelings I know
Must bust forth upon my mind for life and light to win
No more those gentle sighs from far below
Those whispers on the wind cannot sustain me
Soar up and out burst forth upon my world seek high
Join my tempest spirit winging with the gods
Torn to the farthest reaches of the heavens
Flung helpless in the sky
Come, make whole my being so that I may know
What peace there is in daytime, what glory in the night
What wonders can be found in love
What wisdom with calm sight
